Day 02 Bus drive Kathmandu – Pokhara – Phedi 6/7h
Early in the morning after the breakfast, we take a private bus to Pokhara, leaving the Kathmandu Valley crossing a short pass at Nagh Danda before plunging down to Naubise on a twisting road. Soon, the road goes downstream the Trisuli River till Mugling, a town offering many local restaurants for the travelers and drivers plying on the road. The road crosses a bridge over the confluence of the Trisuli and Marshyangdi rivers, going upstream the latter one. Before reaching Pokhara, the road goes through a flat and broad cultivated area. The majestic Annapurna Range is kissing the sky. The road heads now towards the north along the Seti River till Milanchowk. The drive ends in Phedi, a small hamlet at the foot of a hill.
The trail immediately climbs up a steep staircase through forest then terraced fields till Dhampus, a Gurung village on the top of the ridge. You are rewarded with great views of Machapuchare.
Day 03 Dhampus – Deorali (2100m) – Landrung (1500m) 6h
The path goes gradually up through a forested area to Pothana then further to a short pass at Deorali where there are views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. From there it goes down through ferns and orchids forest into a huge side canyon of the Modi khola till a suspension bridge over a stream. It continues through fields and Tolka village, before reaching our lodge at Landrung, a typical Gurung village with flagstones streets.
Day 04 Landrung – Chomrong (2100m) 6h
From the village the path descends through the paved courtyards of the villageto a suspended bridge over the Modi khola, which we follow upstream. There is a steep way up to jhinu Danda on a ridge at 1600m. Then it is a long, steep climb along a treeless ridge to the top at Taglung then the trail is wider to reach Chomrong village with Hiunchuli and Annapurna South towering in front.
Day 05 Chomrong – Dobhan (2600m) 5hrs
Leaving Chomrong village way down a long staircase till a bridge then we walk upstream the narrow Modi Khola valley through rhododendron, oak and bamboo forest. That’s the only way to sanctuary. After Sinuwa, there are no more typical villages but many clusters of lodges to accommodate the trekkers. The trail becomes muddy through bamboo forest and ascends gradually till Dobhan.
Day 06 Dobhan – Machapuchare BC (3700m) 6h 30
We continue going up passing by lodges of Himalaya Hotel, then on a rocky trail then up a steep ravine to Hinko Cave, a huge overhanging rock providing some shelter. Above Deurali we enter a broader valley allowing views of Annapurna 3, Gangapurna and the superb fish tail west face of Machapuchare, still a virgin mountain. At Machapuchare BC the mountain views are stupendous; the panorama includes Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and Machapuchare.
Day 07 Machapuchare BC- Sanctuary (4130m) 3h
Through alpine meadow we go up the highest point of our trek reaching the base camp of Annapurna. There are tremendous views of the near-vertical South Face of Annapurna that towers above the sanctuary to the north-west. So many peaks so close! It’s one of the best close range mountain scenery in Nepal. Unforgettable sunset and sun rise.
Day 08 Sanctuary – Doban (2510m) 6h
With regrets we have to leave that unforgettable spot to retrace our way down till Doban.
Day 09 Doban - Chomrong (2100m) 5h
Retracing back our way to Chomrong, leaving the Modi Khola valley for meeting again terraced fields. Steep staircase up to the village; after 2 days going down we had forgotten uphill walk!
Day 10 Chomrong – Thadapani (2850m) 6h
With Annapurna South in front we go uphill then we leave the path we took at the beginning at Taglung to go through terraced fields, then we drop steeply to a river at Kimrung. The path goes up through a forested area with rhododendrons as high as other trees, orchids, oaks and bamboos. That section is completely different from the beginning one, with less inhabited area due to dense forest. Thadapani is a cluster of few lodges in a forested area, offering nice views of Annapurna Range.
Day 11 Thada Pani – Ghorepani (2850m) 5h
Today’s walk is through a big rhododendron forest, which when blooming in spring season is offering some unforgettable experience of trek under a rhododendron canopy. The path goes up to Deorali (3200m), the highest point of the trek. From there, Dhaulagiri 1 huge face is towering the area. After the short pass, it’s way down to Ghorepani, a quite big village offering tremendous views of Dhaulagiri 1 and Tukuche peak.
Day 12 Ghorepani – Hille – Sudame (1200m) 7h
Early in the morning with head lamp, for those wishing not to miss the unforgettable sun rise over the Himalaya, climbing uphill for one of best panorama in Nepal with from west to east mainly Gurja Himal, Dhaulagiri Himal, Tukuche, Nilgiris, Annapurna Range, Machapuchare, Lamjung, Manaslu…a breath taking panorama! It’s time to go down back to Ghorepani for breakfast. That Poon Hill option adds 1h 30 to the day walk.
Today it’s all day down through a dense forested area before reaching Ulleri, a village clung to the hill, offering panorama over the valley down. It’s a long, tiring staircase plunging to the river downhill. The path crosses two suspension bridges before entering Tikhedhunga and goes further to Hille. The recently built track is getting closer to that place. Avoiding walk on the dusty track, we embark on a jeep till Pokhara, a beautiful town near the Phewa lake. Night in hotel.
Day 13 Flight Pokhara – Kathmandu
According to the flight schedule you will be driven to the airport about 1 hr 1/2 before the departure time. At Kathmandu you will be welcome at the airport exit by our staff. After a short transfer to your hotel you will enjoy relaxing and walking around in the forest. Dinner included.
Day 14 Kathmandu sightseeing
Today we will visit the main shrines and Durbar Squares of Patan, Bhaktapur, a wonderful medieval city with plenty of Hindu pagodas. On our way back visit of the holiest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath along the Bagmati river where dead bodies are cremated according to Hindu religion rituals.
Day 15 Transfer to airport for return flight.
